More than meets the eye

So, I went and saw the new Transformers movie yesterday. It was freaking SWEET! My exact quote when it finished was, “That was 50 shades of awesome dipped in awesome sauce!”
There was so much awesome that I was giddy the entire movie. The way they did the transformations of the robots, the seemingly chaotic way in which the parts shifted around as they transformed was great and The way they were represented in robot form seemed much more realistic and plausible than the straight-lined forms from the animated versions, which is what I’d expect from a live-action version, and greatly aided the suspension of disbelief.  (Spoilers follow the cut.)

It starts out in Qatar, where a Decepticon disguised as a US military chopper that was shot down takes out the entire base and hacks into the US Defense Department network. The hack was stopped, by cutting the hardlines, before the Decepticon could find what he was looking for.

I’m not going to go through the entire plot of the movie here. Sufficeth to say,  there was lots of awesome giant robot fighting, a little bit of teenage romance, and plenty of humor. The scene where the Autobots are at Sam’s house waiting for him to find his grandfather’s glasses, and trying to hide from his parents, is especially rich.

The ending however, is what you don’t see coming. You expect this noble sacrifice from one of the Autobots to destroy the Allspark, either Prime (too predictable though), or, as one of my friends expected, Bumble Bee. Instead, Sam uses it (not entirely sure right now if it was accidental or intentional) to kill Megatron.

All-in-all, a very, very good movie. I wouldn’t mind watching it again. ^_^
