Neo Steam, day two
So, I got to sit down for another day at Neo Steam.
I got up to level 11 today. I ended up running several quests from this one NPC (whose name escapes me at the moment, she wanders around near the save point person), some were more of killing specific animals, but there was one where I was harvesting some kind of plant for her.
That was interesting… I stood there with my hands in the air… like I was casting a spell or something, while a progress bar gradually filled up until I had harvested the plant. Now, I had never played WoW or alot of other MMOs, so while I imagine that this is nothing new for most of you, it’s new and interesting to me.
I think what made it most amusing was the fact that my character didn’t actually have and animation of kneeling and pulling up the plants, instead she’s using some kind of magic to yank them up while standing? Sure, it’s probably easier to deal with from a programming perspective, but it still looks a bit silly. ;)
Another quest that NPC had me run was getting beetle carcasses. This one was kinda annoying until I got some help from Neko. Apparently you have to loot the bodies before they fade away, and they do so fairly quickly. I ended up spamming the ‘Z’ button to make sure I looted it before the body disappeared.
That only solved half the annoyance though. The other half was waiting for what seemed like forever for a progress bar to complete to turn over a rock to reveal the beetle. The casting animation actually ran out before the progress bar did. n.n; Yes, just like when harvesting plants, apparently turning over rocks to reveal beetles also requires a magic spell instead of kneeling down and flipping over the rocks. ;) Don’t get me wrong here, I’m quite enjoying it, but that doesn’t mean I can’t critize or poke fun at parts of the experience.
I had to get Neko’s help with killing a boss mob for a quest, as the thing kept eating my face, as the saying goes. I later found out why I was having so much trouble… apparently I should have upgraded my fireball ability past level one by that point. ;) Oops! (In my defense, I didn’t quite understand how the system for upgrading those worked, not having played an MMO like this before, or at least not played it to a point where it would have mattered.)
By this point I had passed level 10, which meant I could specialize. Talking to the specialization NPC started a new quest chain that involved collecting claws from certain mobs. I didn’t make this discovery about the level of my fireball spell until after I had finished that gathering, or it would have taken alot less time. n.n; Ah well… I have to go face down a demon next time continue (finish?) that quest chain next time I log in.
