初音ミク -Project DIVA-

So, a new trailer for the Japan-only (as far as I know) PSP game 初音ミク -Project DIVA- was recently released. For those that don’t know about Hatsune Miku (初音ミク), she’s a character created for the Vocaloid 2 “Character Vocal Series.” Vocaloid is voice synthesis software used to create music vocal tracks. The “Character Vocal Series” is a series of voice packs for the Vocaloid 2 engine. These voice packs are represented by fictional characters such as Hatsune Miku.
From the trailer, the game itself seems to be a beat matching game where you must hit the PSP’s face buttons in time to the music. In addition to a set of included songs, there is an edit mode, and if I’m understanding correctly, you can use your own MP3s as backing for the edits, and share them with your friends. (Someone please correct me if I’m wrong here. n.n)
(To view this trailer from here, you need a Nico Video account. If you don’t have one, the dannychoo.com post linked at the bottom of this page seems to have it embedded fine and viewable even if you are not logged into Nico Video.) Sega has posted the trailer to Youtube, so I replaced the Nico video embed with the Youtube one.
There are several vocaloid characters available in the game, along with multiple outfits available for Miku. It looks like it could be a fun game, especially with the edit mode.
The game releases in Japan on July 2nd, retailing for 6,090 Yen.
