Powerful Cosplay!
So it’s been a while since I translated one of these posts. I’m really sorry about that. Life’s been quite hectic the past couple of months. I’m studying abroad in Japan this school year, for instance. ;) Anyway, the next one to translate (originally posted on August 7th, 2009) is entitled 「コスプレでパワーアップ!!」 or, “Power up with cosplay!!” It seems that by dressing up your charadoll, you’ll be able to boost her stats in the water gun shooting game. Let the translation commence…. after the jump.
So, the page starts out with the following text plastered in big letters on an image at the top of the page.
「特報!! コスプレでパワーアップ!? 」 Which translates to, “News Flash! Power up with cosplay!?” It then continues below with the following text:
徐々にその全貌が明らかになり始めたコスプレ育成水鉄砲シューティング。 と、ここで重大なキーワードに、あまり触れられていないことに気づく人も多いだろう。 そう、“コスプレ”である。水鉄砲シューティングは分かった。 では、この“コスプレ”とは何を意味するのか!? 極秘に情報収集を始めた我々の前に、驚愕の事実が判明したのだった!!
Translation:
Little by little, the full picture of the cosplay training water gun shooting starts to become clear.[A1] That is to say, it seems that alot of people have noticed that an important keyword has not been touched on much. Yes, it’s “cosplay.” Water gun shooting is understood. So, what is the meaning of “cosplay?” The top-secret intelligence gathering we started proved the shocking truth!![A2]
Translation notes:
[A1]: The word order here is kinda confusing, so I’m not entirely sure on this translation.
[A2]: Another complicated sentence, not exactly sure why 「極秘に情報収集を始めた」 is modifying 「我々の前に」, or if I interpreted that correctly.
これまで説明した水鉄砲シューティングでは、水鉄砲で敵モンスターを打ち倒すというもの。敵は紙でできているので、水で倒せるのだ。とはいえ、中には手ごわい相手もいるらしい。デフォルトの装備で戦うのは、少々骨が折れるのも事実なのだ。
Translation:
With the water gun shooting that has been explained so far, the water gun is how you defeat the enemy monsters. Since the enemy is made of paper, defeat it with water. Nevertheless, among the enemy it seems that there are tough opponents. The truth is, fighting with the default gear will be kind of difficult.
Above the next set of images, is this text:
そこで我々は“コスプレ”という単語に行きあたる。そう、ai sp@ceの魅力の一つは、キャラドルに様々な衣装を着せられること。つまりこの衣装によってパワーアップするからこそ、“コスプレ”育成水鉄砲シューティングなのではないか？と。そこで早速キャラドルの衣装を着替えてみると……。
Translation:
We will therefore proceed to the word called, “cosplay.” So, one of the charms of ai sp@ce is that we can dress up charadolls. In other words, because this clothing can consequently “power up” a charadoll[C1], why not call it “cosplay” training water gun shooting?[C2] [C3] Therefore, try out changing your charadoll’s clothes at once….
Translation notes:
[C1]: It doesn’t say charadoll directly, I’m just assuming from context.
[C2]: I’m translating 育成 as “training.” Other meanings include “nurture” and “promotion.”
[C3]: I have no idea what that standalone “と。” is supposed to mean.
There’s a sequence of images next, explaining the process. Starting from the upper-left.
着替えができるのは、ミッションフィールドに入る前のロビーまでであることが判明。ここでキャラドルのメニューから「着替えさせる」を選択する。
Translation:
The ability to change clothes can be confirmed in the lobby before heading out in to the mission field.[D1] Here, select 「着替えさせる」 (change clothes) from the charadoll’s menu.
Translation notes:
[D1]: That’s the best I got for this sentence…. having 着替えができる as the subject was hard to work with.
Next image (to the right):
お馴染みの着替え画面。ここで様々な衣装のコーディネートをチョイス。今回はゴスロリがテーマのコスプレを選んでミッションに臨む。
Translation:
The familiar changing clothes screen. Here, we can choose our coordinated set of clothes.[E1] This time we’ve selected a goth-loli cosplay theme before heading out on the mission.
Translation notes:
[E1]: I assume “coordinated set of clothes” is what 衣装のコーディネート would mean in this context.
Next image:
すると、「ゴスロリのコスプレをしました」とメッセージが！おお、なんか特別モードの雰囲気が漂うぞ。これで強くなった予感が・・・・・・・。
Translation:
Thereupon, we get a, “Goth-loli cosplayed,” message. Ooh, the ambiance of a special mode is hanging in the air. With this, there’s a presage of becoming stronger…..
Next image (below the other three):
さっそくミッションスタート！ すると、パラメータに追加ポイントが与えられ、水鉄砲が明らかに強化されているではないか!?ページ左上の画像と比較していただければ一目瞭然。これならHP（ハートポイント）の高い敵に対しても、より効果的な攻撃を仕掛けられるのだ。
Translation:
Immediately, the mission starts! Thereupon, the additional points are added to the (charadoll’s) parameters, but the watergun hasn’t obviously become stronger!? If you compare to the image in the upper-left of this page, it’s obvious. In this case of an enemy with high HP (Heart Points), attacks have become more effective.
Now, there’s a break, with a large text image that says: 「コスプレは「キャラコスプレ」と 「属性コスプレ」の２つに分類！」 Which translates to: “Cosplay is classified into the two types of ‘Character Cosplay’ and ‘Attribute Cosplay.’”
キャラコスプレ (Character Cosplay)
キャラコスプレとは、ai sp@ceの原作キャラのコスプレのこと。衣装やウィッグ、小物などを合わせてヒロインになりきることでパワーアップする。『D.C.II』の朝倉音姫では通常の水鉄砲より遠くの敵に攻撃可能！ 他のヒロインでも試してみよう。
Translation:
Character cosplay is ai sp@ce’s original character cosplay.[H1] Clothing, wig, accessories, etc., all together turning into the heroine gives a powerup. With Otome Asakura[H2] from “D.C.II,” it’s possible to attack enemies long-range with the normal water gun! Let’s test the other heroines!
Translation notes:
[H1]: By original character, that means ones (the heroines) from the original games. The ones that form the basis for the world. Clannad, Da Capo, and Shuffle!, in this case.
[H2]: Name given in western name order. (D.C.II is Da Capo II.)
属性コスプレ (Attribute Cosplay)
属性コスプレは、キャラコスプレ以外の衣装のチョイス方法。今回ご紹介するのはゴスロリ。この衣装をそろえることで、水鉄砲の出力が通常時よりもパワーアップする。
Translation:
Attribute cosplay is character cosplay, with the exception of the method of choosing clothing. Like goth-loli introduced this time. When this costume is assembled, the water gun output is powered up compared to normal times.
One more explanatory paragraph to go!
水鉄砲シューティングにおけるコスプレというものを、理解していただけただろうか。 コスプレは特定の衣装を、特定の組み合わせで装備することによって発動する、パワーアップ機能だったのだ！コスプレは、今回紹介した以外にも、10種類以上が初期段階で設定される予定だ。
Translation:
The matter of water gun shooting in cosplay should be well understood now.[J1] Cosplay is a special outfits, combined with special equipment, and consequently put into operation, power up feature! With the exception of the cosplay introduced this time, more than 10 types are planned for the initial stage.
Translation notes:
[J1]: Wasn’t sure if this should be a question or not, went with the not a question route.
And the wrap-up and preview of the next entry. 「その他のコスプレとその効果については、 次回更新（8/28予定）を待て！」 Translation: “Wait for the next update (planned for 8/28) for information about the other cosplay effects!”
Whew, that took some time, didn’t it? ^^; I’m pretty sure I didn’t get everything entirely correct, but I tried. I think I’m definitely going to take a break before tackling the next update, however. ;)
