ai sp@ce crashes a known issue

あぶない!A notice was posted on the ai sp@ce website on the 16th with regards to the (apparently) widespread client crash issue.

Essentially, they acknowleged, as of 6:05 PM that day, that there was a bug that was causing clients to crash after logging in and selecting their avatar. They also stated that they are currently investigating the cause of the crashes and would announce when they have tracked down the cause of the bug. As far as I can tell at this time, they haven’t put out that announcement yet, so it’s likely they’re still working on it.

This is likely related to the watergun shooting game, which appears to be quite popular and is putting a huge strain on the ai sp@ce servers (as I reported on earlier).

Full text and translation of the announcement after the jump.

[A1] I know there’s a better way of expressing this in English, but it’s escaping me at the moment. ^^;

    I figured out a fix for this. You have to set it to run on a single core.
    (Going into Task Manager, clicking “Set Affinity” and unchecking one of the boxes. (On Win Vista)) Once I did this i’ve had no crashes whatsoever.

    Huh, the crash is probably related to some race condition or thread synchronization issue across multiple CPUs/cores, then. Thanks for the tip. ^_^ As a side note, you can do this in Windows XP as well. I had to do this with the Hotsync manager for my Palm/Handspring Visor PDA, otherwise it would BSOD on me.
