30th Anniversary Pac-Man bun

Friday, January 8th, 2010

So, in commemoration of Pac-Man’s 30th birthday, Circle K in Japan is going to be selling Pac-Man buns.

No, that’s not a hamburger patty, from what I understand, it’s supposed to be some kind of cookie. Going to be looking for these when they go on sale on the 13th of January for the price of 120 yen each. Here we see the mouth area cut out of the bun to expose the innards of it. Looks delish!

Google fiber optic cable

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

Catgirls with cablesSo, a new fiber-optic cable named “Unity” has left Japan, bound for a rendezvous with another ship coming from Los Angeles. It was announced in February of last year, and is a joint effort by Google and a group of telecom companies. The companies involved are Bharti Airtel from India, Global Transit from Malaysia, Google, KDDI Corporation from Japan, Pacnet from Hong Kong, and SingTel from Singapore. Supposedly its full capacity is 7.68 Tbps (yes, that’s terabits per second), though will be running at 4.8 Tbps when it’s fully launched. The two ships will meet in the middle of the Pacific and fuse their cables together, and the new cable should be operational by early next year.

No Answer, No Live!

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

No Answer, No Live! ticket stubSorry I didn’t get to this post until now, but midterms have been killer. ^^; I went to Halko Momoi‘s Osaka concert on her “No Answer, No Live!” concert tour last Saturday. It was quite fun, though tiring, as it was standing room only at the venue, so I was on my feet for several hours.

Gackt Web Live

Saturday, July 4th, 2009

Gackt as Uesugi KenshinSo I got an interesting email in my inbox from ニコニコ動画 (Nico Nico Douga) yesterday Thursday (it was yesterday when I started writing this post), and finally had time to sit down and read through it today. (I’m sure that alot of you got this email too, if you have an account there.) They had two big announcements, the first of which is some kind of enhancement related to watching live broadcasts on DoCoMo phones for premium members. The second however, was announcement of a live broadcast of a Gackt concert through NND.

More Lifesize Gundam Footage

1/1 Scale GundamMore awesome footage of the 1/1 scale Gundam in Odaiba. This video shows not only the side-to-side movement of the head and the steam from the chest, as we saw in my previous post about this giant Gundam, but also shows that the head can move up and down as well, and that steam comes out at the feet of the Gundam as well. Youtube video after the jump.

Beautiful Gundam at Night

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

Lit up Gundam at duskSo the construction of that life-size Gundam in Odaiba finished this week. That in and of itself was awesome. What made it even more awesome is the fact that it lights up at night. Pink Tentacle has provided several beautiful photos of the lit up life-size Gundam in a blog post. An HD Youtube video of the Gundam has also popped up, showing that the Gundam not only lights up, but steams, has sound effects, and has a moving head. (It only shows a daytime view of the Gundam, however.) Hit the jump for it.

Further Adventures with a Japanese Keyboard

Sunday, January 7th, 2007

Well, after switching Windows 2k’s default language back to English so I can read the IME’s menus easier, and further messing around with the keyboard, I’ve discovered how to directly type hiragana with that new keyboard, I had to engage in the IME what I believe is called “kana lock,” which you can enable with CTRL+Caps Lock, or by clicking on the little “KANA” button in the IME toolbar.

Adventures with a Japanese Keyboard

Sunday, January 7th, 2007

A couple of thoughtful friends got me a Japanese USB keyboard for christmas (thanks guys!), and I’ve been trying to read through the documentation that came with it, but it’s really slow going. n.n; It’s very interesting however, the slight differences in the basic keyboard layout. The english alphabet characters are still in the standard QWERTY layout, but the difference is in where some of the symbol keys are (or more correctly, what symbols are on what keys), and the fact that it has a few extra keys in the layout.
